DORCHESTER Town first-team coach Robbie Herrera admitted his start to life with the Magpies has been “tough”.

Herrera joined new boss Leigh Robinson at the helm in early January, succeeding former manager Callum Brooks.

Robinson and Herrera have so far enjoyed just one win from six games – a 4-1 Dorset Senior Cup semi-final victory over Wimborne Town.

Dorchester are yet to claim a point in the five league games since the duo took over.

In his first interview with Echosport, Herrera said: “It’s tough, obviously the club’s been in decline a little bit.

“We’ve tried to come in and change things, change the mood. Whether it’s working is yet to be decided, but we’ve tried to do things in the right, positive manner.

“Hopefully as times goes by – I know we’re running out of time a little bit – we’ll turn it.”

Asked how painful Saturday’s 5-0 home defeat to Salisbury had been, former QPR, Torquay and Fulham full-back Herrera said: “It’s a difficult one to take.

“We just need to be a little bit more brave as a four or a five at the back, get a little bit tighter.

“We need to say that nobody’s going to pass and protect the goal and our keeper.

“I’ve been in a situation like this before, so I know how it is. It’s going to take some work, changing a few bodies, which we’re trying to do.

“When you’re a team that’s languishing down the bottom not many people are jumping to join your wagon. There’s work to be done.”

Elaborating on the Salisbury game, Herrera said: “The second goal was a killer for us at a set-piece – we got caught out.

“As soon as that went in, the game was done. As teams do, at this stage of the season when things aren’t going well, heads go down.

“We proceeded to concede another three poor goals from our point of view, but we’ll get it right.”
