HENDON 3

By Terry Spracklen

The Magpies tasted defeat for the ninth time at home in the league this season as visitors Hendon scored three times after the break at the Clayson Stadium.

Dorchester assistant manager Robbie Herrera, in charge of the team in the absence of boss Leigh Robinson, was dealt a blow before kick off when Charlie Madden was injured in the warm up. Madden’s place in the starting line-up was handed to Jack Tornainen. Tiago Sa replaced Neil Martin in the left back position. Striker Emile Ngoy made his home debut alongside Tom Bath.

Dorchester threatened first but Rihards Matrevics raced out to thwart an early run from Bath. At the other end a menacing cross from Joseph White was cleared over his own crossbar by Sa.

Matrevics was soon back in action to claim a cross from Franklyn Clarke then in a goalmouth scramble Matrevics first parried a Bath header then somehow kept the ball out as Ngoy and Cameron Sangster threatened to fire the Magpies in front.

As the Magpies continued to press, Sa found Ngoy whose downward header flew wide then Nathan Walker delivered a cross to Bath whose header was claimed by the Hendon keeper.

Clarke then found Ngoy who turned quickly but hit the side-netting and from Tom Purrington’s pass, Bath sent a firm effort crashing off the crossbar.

After this good spell of Dorchester pressure, a poor clearance from the Magpies defence suddenly gifted Corcoran a chance.

Murphy could only watch in hope as Corcoran’s low curler sailed past both him and far post. Sean Wright then found Sangster whose shot was charged down.

Olarerin jinked his way skilfully through the Dorchester penalty area only to be denied at the near post by Murphy. The resultant corner was only half-cleared but Kieron Forbes fired over from 18 yards.

A quick break by Ngoy was foiled by a timely challenge from Olarerin.

A long ball from Forbes aimed at Soloman Sambou was shepherded out of play by Murphy. Opposite number Matrevics gathered a cross from Tornainen while from Sa’s centre, Walker’s shot from 18 yards was blocked as the first half ended all square.

Purrington did not reappear in the second half for Dorchester with Gardner summoned from the substitute’s bench.

The second half started with the Magpies again applying pressure. Bath chased a long ball but Matrevics held his nerve to gather on the edge of his area.

Hendon had the ball in the Dorchester net on 48 minutes but Joseph White’s effort was ruled out through offside.

Bath and Ngoy combined to set up Clarke who fired over for Dorchester.

A Forbes free kick found skipper Tommy Brewer who could not take advantage of the opportunity.

Hendon grabbed the lead on 56 minutes when a Forbes deep left wing corner was headed back across goal by Sambou to Brewer who headed in at the far post. Liam Brooks then tumbled in the Magpies penalty area but referee Martin Underhay waved play on.

Bath exchanged passes with Clarke but could not keep the return ball in play. Jamie Laird halted a good run by Brooks while a looping header from Sean Wright was well claimed by Matrevics.

Shaun Lucien then found White whose low shot was saved with his feet by Murphy who then failed to hold a corner from Corcoran but Brewer was unable to net the loose ball. Matrevics gathered one Clarke centre while Bath was unable to capitalise on another.

Hendon substitute Percy Kiangebeni nearly made an instant impact with a shot just wide at the near post and then the Magpies conceded the second goal two minutes from the end of normal time when Gardner was dispossessed in midfield enabling White to race clear and beat Murphy at the second attempt after the Dorchester keeper did well to parry his first attempt.

Hendon added more misery to the Magpies’ afternoon with a third goal in the third minute of stoppage time when substitute Luca Allinson broke away down the left wing to deliver a low cross to Olarerin who steered a close range shot past Murphy.
