DESPITE being named the Vanarama National League South’s player of the month for his performances in January, Terras star Abdulai Baggie says he wants to “score more goals.”

The Sierra Leonean danger man has been in devastating form for Weymouth, scoring 11 goals and providing seven assists for his team mates this season.

Three of those goals came in January, including a 95th-minute winner against Dorking, securing the 27-year-old the league’s player of the month award.

But Baggie is not thinking too much about this achievement, instead he is focused on maintaining his form and setting himself new targets.

He said: “I think to be honest I haven’t thought of it really.

“The games come thick and fast and you just have to take it one game at a time so I don’t really look too far ahead.

“The targets for me are to try and score and assist in every game, I love to contribute towards the team.

“It’s been a good month on a personal note but obviously I want to continue that and score more goals and create more assists.”

When asked what his target is this season in terms of goals, the Terras’ top goal scorer kept his cards close to his chest.

“We are playing really well at the minute and obviously I’m on 11 so the next target is 15 for me. I won’t look too far ahead, you have got to keep the targets realistic.

“Our goal is to finish as high as possible and hopefully go up, so hopefully I can keep doing what I’m doing and help us finish in the best position we can.”

Baggie’s performances have not gone unnoticed by manager Mark Molesley, who added: “He’s deserved it, he has worked really hard for us this season and has added goals and assists to his game which I know he said he wanted to improve on.

“We have spread the goals around the team quite well this year but no more so than Baggie who has taken on that mantle, scoring some very important goals for us.”

Baggie has carried on that goalscoring prowess into February, netting a screamer during the draw against Eastbourne Borough on Saturday.

But Baggie said his goal was overshadowed by the controversial decision to not award the Terras a penalty, with Weymouth feeling they were robbed of two points by the officials.

He said: “At the end of the day we didn’t get the points that we wanted to. It is what it is and we have to move on from it. On another day we might have got the three points.

“We are still in a good position and we have to enjoy it as well. There are still lots of games to play and lots of points to play for.”

When asked who else in the Terras squad could have won the player of the month award, Baggie said that every one of the Weymouth players deserved it after coming through a period where they played seven games in a month.

“I think everyone has (deserved it), I’m not just saying that, everyone deserves it.

“We all work hard as a team. Our togetherness is the reason why we are where we are.”

Weymouth’s next game is on Saturday, February 15 when they travel to Hampton & Richmond Borough (3pm).
