FRUSTRATED Weymouth boss Mark Molesley conceded the Terras lacked an “end product” against an organised Billericay Town during their 0-0 draw at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Weymouth had by far the better of play, conjuring six shots on target to Billericay’s two, but failed to force away keeper Alan Julian into any real discomfort.

And Billericay – the Essex side seemingly content with a point – almost snatched the win only for Terras’ stopper Calum Ward to rapidly block Femi Akinwande’s snapshot six yards out.

Weymouth forwards Ben Thomson and sub Yemi Odubade could only force Julian into comfortable saves as the hosts struggled to break down Jamie O’Hara’s men.

Speaking post-match, Molesley admitted Weymouth’s season had been characterised by wasteful finishing when on top of teams.

Asked for his reaction to the stalemate, he said: “One of disappointment. First half I thought we were very strong, started the game well – numerous chances, lots of crosses.

“Just lacking that final end product, which has probably been the story of our season. When we’ve been on top we haven’t really turned the screw on teams.

“This is a tough league with good teams and there’s never going to be a one-sided affair – you never get that, teams are too good and have good players.

“When you’re in the ascendancy and on top in a game, you need to put chances away. We missed a hatful.

“Our final ball wasn’t good enough for what our early dominance the (first) half. Obviously they get to half-time at 0-0 and the game has a different complexion in the second half.

“It’s up to us to create the tempo and show the quality to keep on top. Unfortunately, I don’t think we quite showed that and the second half almost petered out, which was disappointing.

“We should’ve shown a bit more quality at times. The anxiety levels rise a little bit, you can hear everyone getting frustrated, a few huffs and puffs.

“It almost snowballs, we ran ourselves into a dead end in that second half. They’re fine lines at the moment.

“I don’t think we’re too far away, but unfortunately it didn’t quite click into place.”

Molesley hinted Billericay’s intentions were clear throughout the game.

“I think they were pleased with a point,” he said.

“They’ve come and defended well, made things difficult. They’ve got some real attacking threats as well, so we had to be on our toes and make sure we didn’t get that sucker punch.

“First half we did more than enough to win the game, second half we didn’t. Ultimately, we can have no complaints.”

Looking at the positives, the result was only Weymouth’s second clean sheet in 18 league games, with the Terras rising one place to fourth after 10-man Havant’s shock 2-1 loss to St Albans.
