BRIDPORT boss Jamie Manley revealed he will run the rule over promising teenage midfielder Riley Weedon in Saturday’s crunch Toolstation Western League Premier Division clash at Cribbs (3pm).

While Manley did not disclose whether Weedon would start, it is another impressive landmark for the Bees’ youngster.

Weedon scored a hat-trick in Bridport Reserves’ 3-2 comeback win at Balti Sports last time out, taking his tally to nine goals in five games.

Cribbs currently lie in 17th, with Bridport 18th, the Bees trailing their Bristol-based opponents by seven points.

Speaking to the Bridport News, Manley said: “I’m going to have a look at Riley from the reserves. He’s done really well in recent weeks.

“As a manager, I’d be foolish not to have a look at him.

“I speak to Shaun (Annetts, reserves boss) every week and we discuss what lads are doing really well in the reserves.

“I think Riley deserves his opportunity to come in and get involved with the first team.

“That’s how reserve-team football should be. If they’re scoring goals then they deserve a shot in the first team.”

On Cribbs, Manley added: “They’re just above us and it’s a big opportunity for us to close the gap on them.

“The surface is always nice at Cribbs, as long as the rain holds off. It will be a good opportunity for the lads to get a result.”

Lewis Clarke (unavailable) miss out, but Jamie Barfoot and Andy Holmes return.
