“ON FIRE” AFC Stoneham represent Portland United’s “biggest game” for a long time, according to boss Brendon King.

Having been promoted from Wessex League Division One, Stoneham have rocketed to the top of the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division.

Resultantly, the Purples travel to the Weyline Stadium tomorrow (3pm) with a 22-point advantage over the 10th-placed Blues, who have three games in hand.

Stoneham are also looking to do the double over Portland, having beaten the islanders 4-1 on the opening day of the season.

“That’s what happens when you get a team that comes up and we had good reports about them,” King told Echosport. “It wasn’t a freak, one-off result against us.

“It’s going to be a very difficult game, they’re on fire. It’s a good game for us to play in.

“We know they’re very effective in how they go about their business so we’re going to have to be right on our toes.

“We’re going to have to stand up and be counted, right on it – it’s going to be a good game.”

King added: “Hopefully if the weather’s decent we can get a few up there and watch.

“It’s going to be the biggest game for us for a long time, so it should bring a few people out. We’ll be ready to rock and roll.”

Sean Stewart (back) is in contention after playing 45 minutes during Portland Reserves’ 2-1 win over Corfe Castle.

Max Buckler and Josh Williams are unavailable, while Ryan McKechnie (eye) is doubtful.
