THE Terras quite literally battered the Stones, netting five times with five different scorers and missing two of three penalties, in this action-packed Vanarama National League South battle that even Storm Jorge failed to hamper.

And the emphatic nature of a victory against such seasoned opponents has really given Weymouth's play-off ambitions a huge boost just 10 months on from promotion.

Delighted boss Mark Molesley was thrilled with the three points and five goals when he said after the game: "I have to be happy with that, playing against a quality side like Maidstone.

"It was important to get that win and put more daylight between us and them. I was happy with our approach and we dealt with the conditions really well, managing them as best we could and using them to our advantage.

"So I've got to be happy as a manager – three points in this league, especially against established teams such as Maidstone – you've got to be happy. And to win it so emphatically, I've got to be pleased."

Weymouth got off to a rousing start with a goal inside three minutes from Calvin Brooks which then led to Molesley drawing comparisons between this game and last Saturday's goalless draw with Billericay, also at home.

He explained: "We know that when we are on top and having good spells of pressure, you have to make that pay, and we managed to get the breakthrough and that was the key to our performance.

"We felt we created a lot of chances, we worked the ball into their box and into some good areas quite a lot of times so we obviously forced those penalties."

Finally, on the current table that sees the Terras flying high in third place, the boss remained firmly grounded when he said,"Ultimately (the win) is just three points and we just need to take the confidence into the next game. We are always harsh on ourselves – there are always areas to improve and we were a little bit sloppy at times in the second half.

"But there are so many good sides in this league – you can't get too high or too low. We will just focus on how we train and how we approach the next game."
