PORTLAND United boss Brendon King is keen to “get one over” on friend and Brockenhurst manager Pat McManus as the two sides collide in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division tomorrow (3pm).

The Blues visit the Badgers looking to avenge a 2-0 defeat in the reverse fixture in November.

Victory for King’s men would extend their 11-point advantage over Brockenhurst, who lie 14th compared to Portland’s 11th.

On paper, Portland could be playing the Badgers at the right time, with McManus’ side winless in the league since a 2-0 win at Solent University on Saturday, January 4.

But King is not fooled. He told Echosport: “It would be nice to go up there and get one over on Pat, but they had a decent draw (2-2 on Tuesday) night at Fareham.

“They’re a side similar to us in that they’ve had a good start to the season and tailed off a little bit.

“They’ve got some quite good youngsters and a couple more experienced players, so it should be quite a good game.

“We normally have a half-decent game when we play them.”

Brockenhurst go into the game on a low after Cassius Newton, son of ex-Chelsea midfielder and former assistant-manager Eddie Newton, suffered a broken leg at Fareham.

King said: “That’s never nice. He’s a good lad, Cass. I had him when I first took over at Hamworthy.

“It’s a shame, you don’t want to see things like that. We send our best wishes to Cassius.”

Sean Stewart and Ryan McKechnie could return to first-team action, while the Blues will assess defender Luke King (knee).

Meanwhile, Portland's League Cup quarter-final clash with Totton & Eling has been reversed to a home fixture after the Millers twice postponed the contest due to a waterlogged pitch.
