YEOVIL Town Women have moved away from Dorchester Town’s Clayson Stadium for both financial and logistical reasons, Echosport can confirm.

While finance has partly played a role in the decision, the Glovers are not believed to be in financial distress.

Yeovil last played at the Clayson on Sunday, February 16 when the Glovers defeated Larkhall 4-1 in the County Cup.

Their next home game, originally scheduled for Dorchester’s home ground on February 23, was switched to Bridgwater & Taunton College, yielding a 3-0 win over Plymouth Argyle.

In a statement on the club’s Twitter account, which sources say is the Glovers’ official position on the matter, Yeovil said the move is a “trial” amid a “re-building phase”.

It reads: “Following the takeover of the club in the Summer and initial transition, a review of the club was carried out.

“As a Somerset affiliated club, it was proposed to trial chosen match(es) in Somerset. This home county trial return brings us ‘home’ whilst giving new & returning fans who may have missed out in recent times the opportunity to be part of the club again.

“These opportunities allow for the club to continue its re-build into the club we want to be. We understand that this may disappoint some fans.

“We hope that by explaining the trial being carried out our fans will continue to support the club during this re-building phase.”

When approached by Echosport, Dorchester officials confirmed the separation was for financial reasons.
