PORTLAND UNITED 6
TOTTON & ELING 1
RYAN McKechnie bagged his second hat-trick in four days as Portland United thrashed Totton & Eling 6-1 to reach the Sydenhams Wessex League Cup semi-finals.
There was pleasant symmetry for McKechnie to his previous treble in the 5-1 win at Brockenhurst on Saturday, as he again netted in injury-time to seal his hat-trick.
Brazilian striker Eder Batista set the Blues on their way in the 14th minute before McKechnie polished off Bailey Rowe’s square pass for 2-0 four minutes later.
The Millers replied when James Matthews crossed for Dylan Gain to halve the deficit, but Portland went 3-1 up when Batista turned and shot sharply from 18 yards.
Rowe shot across Millers’ keeper Oli Eyres just before half-time, setting the stage for McKechnie to finish off the scoring in the second half, his second a cheeky backheel before slotting home his third late on.
Portland visit AFC Portchester on Saturday (3pm).
Blues: Boore, Bastick, Bessant, Halloran, King, McKechnie, Batista, Williams, Symes, Rowe, Morris.
Attendance: 87
