TERRAS boss Mark Molesley said he was “delighted and excited” that the National League confirmed Weymouth will finish third this season and will get a chance at promotion with the play-offs going ahead.

The National League released a statement which said: “Following a vote by all member Clubs, and subject to FA Council approval, the Vanarama National League, Vanarama National League North and Vanarama National League South seasons 2019/20 will be concluded with final league tables compiled on an “Unweighted Points Per Game” basis.”

This leaves Weymouth sitting third, missing out on automatic promotion by one place. Ahead of them, Wealdstone will be named champions of the National League South and Havant & Waterlooville will be runners up.

The national League also confirmed the end of season play-offs will now proceed with the clubs that qualify, “subject to the competition rules and the applicable government guidance on the phased return of elite sport.”

On hearing the news, Molesley said: “I’m delighted and excited at the prospects of the playoffs going ahead but at the same time, it’s important to not get too carried away. The playoffs are still alive and we will be doing everything we can to prepare. We have a real chance.

“In our first season back at this level in a long time, I am immensely proud of the players and staff. We were tipped to just about survive at the start, so to finish up third is a great achievement. As a club, we always want more and we will always strive for that. We hope that we get a chance to finish what we started this season.

“As ever I would also like to thank you, the fans for your continued support. That support will be just as important now.”

There will be no relegation from Vanarama National League North or Vanarama National League South.

Chief Executive Officer Michael Tattersall commented: “I congratulate each of our champions Clubs on their successful campaigns. The enforced curtailment of our season does nothing to discredit the quality of the football played and I am pleased that our Clubs have overwhelmingly supported the award of their titles. We can now also look towards the completion of end of season Play-Offs.”
