WEYMOUTH Football Club has launched an appeal to fund their play-off push, with Covid-19 regulations placing an additional £50,000 price tag on their promotion hopes.

As previously reported the National League season has ended, leaving the Terras in third place, and Mark Molesley's side are set for the play-offs this summer.

The club has said in a statement that, while they are in a good financial place, the play-offs come at a large additional financial cost due to the cost of coronavirus testing and the associated costs faced in order for clubs to be compliant with the government’s Covid-19 regulations.

A club spokesman said: "We obviously want to give Mark; the players and you our brilliant supporters every opportunity to build on the success this season deserves.

"Having planned and budgeted for next season and to avoid potentially leaving ourselves with a large shortfall. We now need your help.

"Based on the information we have been given by the league and the government the additional costs are anticipated to be in the region of £50,000.

"I am sure you will appreciate without a crowd in the stadium and other matchday income this would leave a big void.

"If we are going to participate in the play-offs we need your help so we can remain competitive next season."

Manager Mark Molesley said in a video message to fans: "I hope everyone is keeping well in these challenging times. Just sending this message really as a plea for any help that we can get from the Terras family and the wider community in funding these play-offs.

"I can assure you, everyone associated with the football club has worked so hard to get into the position that we are. I feel that my staff and my team deserve the chance to play out the season.

"Forgive me for asking, but anything you can give to give us that chance will be greatly appreciated. Everyone stay safe and Up The Terras."

The club is putting together other ideas to raise money, from streaming the game through to a special edition play-off home shirt.

A spokesman added: "We will not stop fighting for the right to compete, let’s face it this club has had to fight plenty in the past decade to even exist. We are all fans at this wonderful club and now we can all play our part to realise the dream many thought would never be seen again in those dark days.

"If you can help please do so, as every pound will be vital."
