SOUTHEND United are in talks with Weymouth boss Mark Molesley over succeeding Sol Campbell as manager.

Echosport understands Molesley, who is under contract for another season, is yet to decide whether to stay at Weymouth or join the Shrimpers.

Molesley was in Essex this weekend as Southend chairman Ron Martin whittled his shortlist down to two contenders.

Craig Fagan, the Blues' under-23s coach, is currently taking training for the League Two side but is understood to be next in line if Molesley declines the move.

Odds on Molesley joining Southend this morning shortened to 1/5, with Fagan priced at 3/1.

And, according to the Southend Echo, United's courting of Molesley gathered pace after Weymouth gained promotion to the National League two Saturdays ago.

Molesley has already fended off competition for the Roots Hall role from Barnet boss Darren Currie and ex-Southend manager Steve Tilson.
