DORCHESTER TOWN 2

Blair 20, Ngoy 31

HELSTON AFC 1

Goldsworthy 22

DORCHESTER Town secured their second straight pre-season friendly victory after seeing off Helston 2-1 at the Avenue Stadium.

Leigh Robinson’s Magpies had recorded a 3-0 win over Winchester in their opening warm-up game and again started well as Tom Blair shot just wide.

With three tiers separating the sides, Dorchester enjoyed the better of the opening period and conjured another half-chance which Oakley Hanger hoisted high.

Helston were not without chances as Billy Tucker forced home keeper Jon Ross into a smart save.

Dorchester broke through first in the 20th minute when Blair pounced upon a loose ball 20 yards out, placing his shot into the far corner for 1-0.

Helston were behind for less than two minutes as striker Mark Goldsworthy ghosted into space in the Dorchester area before turning and sweeping home past Ross.

In a ding-dong passage of play, Dorchester regained the lead in the 31st minute.

Another inviting corner from Tiago Sa picked out Emile Ngoy, the tall forward burying a volley into the top corner when unmarked.

Helston had two excellent opportunities before the break as Jordan Dingle sent an effort skimming just wide of the post before Ross showed sharp reflexes to repel a Phil Cattran piledriver.

Helston continued to look the likelier to score after the break as Goldsworthy inexplicably missed a golden chance, rattling the post.

That miss kicked Dorchester into life as Blair went close after a flowing team move.

Skipper Franklyn Clarke then found Sam Bayston with a peachy pass but the former Wimborne winger’s shot was off target.

Bayston had the final Dorchester chance of the night as the wide man pinged a shot narrowly astray after Blair and Harry Hodges had combined for the opening.

Helston might have snatched a draw at the death but for the heroics of Ross, who acrobatically pushed clear a shot from sub Liam Eddy to preserve Dorchester’s advantage against the adventurous Cornish side.

Next up for Dorchester is an intra-club friendly between the first and under-23 teams on Tuesday (7.45pm).

The fixture marks the first time fans can watch a Dorchester match since lockdown, with attendance capped at 300.
