DORSET’S Twenty20 double-header with Devon at Bridgwater was abandoned after just 6.5 overs due to a dangerous pitch.
Dorchester’s James Caldwell had been selected in the matchday squad of 12, but was only named as 12th man for the opening game.
The abandonment means Caldwell will have to wait to don the green jersey.
Dorset had made a decent start to the first clash, Chris Wood (1-4) finding the edge of Matthew Golding at 7-1.
Early signs of excessive bounce began to appear but Devon captain Alex Barrow (21) seemed untroubled, hitting two sixes in an attacking knock.
He eventually fell to left-arm seamer Brad Currie (2-12), snicking one behind to keeper Harry Fisher, before Currie struck again to remove Jamie Baird (1).
However, with the pitch misbehaving and Dorset’s pace attack in full flight, the umpires hauled the players off with the score on 41-3, officials also cancelling the second clash.
