BRENNAN Camp has designs on breaking into the Bournemouth first team this season.

Camp, 19, is Dorchester born and Portland raised and enjoyed an immaculate loan spell with Weymouth as the Terras ascended to the National League earlier in August.

Comfortable at centre-back or right-back, the Cherries’ defender proved a valuable asset as Weymouth secured back-to-back promotions.

Camp has now locked his crosshairs on a first-team debut under new boss Jason Tindall.

Qualifying for Scotland under-19s via his grandfather Gerry Gow, the former Weymouth boss, Camp believes his performances for Weymouth could also help his cause, with Bournemouth closely analysing the teenage talent.

He told Echosport: “Hopefully I did them proud. I know they were watching most of my games.

“The only thing I can do is impress them and when I go back to (playing for) Bournemouth I’ll get a chance for them – it’s been a good loan spell for me.

“I’m just trying to break into the first team, train more often with them.

“I had a few sessions with them last year, which was good. The main objective now is to really push for that first-team spot, get a few appearances under my name and see where it goes.

“I’ve got one more year left on my contract, so I’ll hopefully impress this season and get a new deal come the end of the year.”

He added: “If I do well this season, hopefully I’ll deserve one. I’ve just got to keep working hard, keep doing the right things on and off the pitch and hopefully it will come.”
