DORCHESTER II 128-1 (20pts) beat SHERBORNE II 127 (3pts) by nine wickets

DORCHESTER Seconds thrashed Sherborne Seconds to seal a fifth maximum-point win of the season.

Rob Nobbs’ men are the only team in the Dorset ‘Thank You NHS’ League to score a maximum 100 points from five games, which sets up a trip to Verwood in the Division Three play-off final (Saturday 1.30pm).

Matt Porter bowled beautifully to record figures of 6-21, while Nobbs chipped in with 2-27 as Sherborne were dismissed for 127.

David Gray (49no) and Rhys Cole (46no) then batted clinically despite the early loss of Dan Morris (0) to ease the hosts to a massive nine-wicket success.

Nobbs told Echosport: “Matt bowled out of this world, he took 6-21 off his eight and it was testament to him.

“The main objective was not to be complacent, because we knew we’d won the group already with the 80 points.

“We wanted to go out with 100 points, so that was the main message to the lads.

“To be fair, they stuck in and took us right through to the last overs. We desperately wanted to get that last wicket and the full bowling points.

“It was tough and didn’t get it until the penultimate ball. Then Rhys and Dave knocked them off only one down, so that was good only losing one wicket – it was ideal.

“But, we know it’s going to be tough (at Verwood). They’ve scored quite a few runs but I don’t know much about them.”
