WEYMOUTH boss Brian Stock has pledged to develop his squad from within amid tight budget constraints.

The Terras host Poole Town in their fourth pre-season friendly today (3pm), with Stock having made Bournemouth defender Brennan Camp his first recruit of the summer.

Stock revealed there is “room” for more new faces at the Bob Lucas Stadium but insisted the success achieved by the current Terras’ squad deserved a loyal approach.

“The most important thing is to work with the players,” he said.

“I looked at the players and I liked quite a lot of the individual performances.

“We’ve still got time from now until the start of the season to have a look at the squad.

“There is room to bring one or two in – no doubt we’ll be looking around for players in certain positions.

“Given how successful the squad has been, they deserve the right to fight for their place.”

Stock has also learned from his time at Havant, where the Hawks were in 2019 relegated from the National League immediately after double promotion.

He said: “We did a double promotion, exactly like Weymouth.

“Going into the season, we had high expectations of achieving a couple of upsets.

“One of the biggest factors we found was the fitness, the demand and competing with full-time clubs.

“When it comes to the ambition of the club, it doesn’t stop at double promotion. To stabilise a club like Weymouth in year one would be a success.

“Not to say you wouldn’t look higher. I’m a very ambitious manager and I’d like to continue that.”

Centre-back Myles Anderson (ankle) and striker Cody Cooke (hamstring) are doubts.
