EXETER CITY 1

Seymour 67

WEYMOUTH maintained their unbeaten pre-season form as a last-gasp Calvin Brooks header earned the Terras a deserved 1-1 draw against League Two side Exeter City at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Former Dorchester Town striker Ben Seymour had put the Grecians ahead in the 67th minute with a calm header before Brooks’ late intervention in a game Weymouth monopolised.

In a dry opening 10 minutes in terms of chances, neither side created a meaningful effort until Exeter forward Nicky Ajose’s lob was comfortably dealt with by keeper Jack Bycroft.

Weymouth began to build on their solid start as Brennan Camp whistled a header over after Tom Whelan fired a separate opening off target from Alefe Santos’ scything ball.

Brian Stock’s men were in the ascendancy and City keeper Jonny Maxted made his first save of the game from Ollie Harfield’s rasping drive.

Exeter nearly forced a breakthrough when Nelson Iseguan’s bobbling effort was hacked clear following an initial shot from Ajose.

Weymouth continued their positive play when Cam Murray fizzed a shot wide of the upright in the 49th minute.

Sub Josh Wakefield forced Maxted into a save at close quarters before Exeter took a lead their play had barely merited.

Jack Sparkes created the chance and in typically lethal fashion Seymour converted his opportunity with an arcing header over Bycroft.

Weymouth’s appeals for a late penalty were turned down before sub Josh McQuoid struck the post with a header after fine work from Murray.

However, the Terras’ perseverance paid dividends in stoppage time as Brooks rose high to bullet a header past Maxted from a corner as the hosts claimed a well-earned draw.
