DORCHESTER Town manager Leigh Robinson hailed star winger Tom Blair for making “real progress” despite the Magpies’ talisman failing to secure a contract at Yeovil.

Blair went on trial with the Glovers, lining up in green and white against Frome, but was not offered a permanent deal.

Echosport understands while Blair did well on trial Yeovil’s midfield diamond is not designed for wide players, leading to the Glovers passing up the chance to sign the wing wizard.

Speaking to Echosport, Robinson admitted it was bad news for Blair but he expects a big move to come for the Dorchester man later in his career.

“I’m disappointed for him but with my manager’s hat on I have to be happy he’s back with us,” he said.

“He’s such a quality player. He totally understands that he’s going to attract clubs like that in the future.

“On this occasion, the stars didn’t align. It wasn’t quite right and everything in football happens for a reason.

“He knows that if he keeps doing what he has been doing he’s going to attract another club of that size and the stars might well align differently for him.

“We’re happy to have him back and he’s made real progress in terms of his discipline, he’s a lot calmer on the pitch.

“You can see the time he’s had out has affected him and he doesn’t want that to happen again, so his discipline’s been good.

“Knowing what I know, it just wasn’t the right timing for him. I’m certain that chance will come again for him.”
