PORTLAND United boss Callum Brooks would “chew someone’s arm off” for a victory at home to Hamble Club in the FA Vase first qualifying round today (3pm).
Brooks’ men have crashed out of the FA Cup and Wessex League Cup already this season and were beaten 8-1 in their previous league game by Baffins Milton Rovers.
Brooks is in the middle of a big rebuilding job with the Blues, who have lost several experienced players this season.
And the former Dorchester manager is anxious to secure a much-needed victory.
He told Echosport: “It’s a knockout competition and one that could bring the club a little bit of excitement.
“It won’t make or break us. I’d be absolutely mad to suggest we want to do anything other than win the game.
“I would chew someone’s arm off for an ugly 1-0 which would just turn our fortunes a little bit.
“Usually when you talk about results you have to look at the process of getting them.
“I need to pick the fittest, most robust team I can and look to nail down the basics.”
Alex Halloran (groin) will be assessed, Sam Buckler could return but Sam Jackson is expected to play for parent club Poole at Beaconsfield today.
