UPWEY & BROADWEY 11

BRIDPORT THIRDS 1

UPWEY & Broadwey obliterated Bridport Thirds 11-1 in Dorset League Division One.

Before what morphed into a deceptive scoreline, Bridport dominated the opening 20 minutes without reward.

Upwey’s first penetrative move produced a goal when Oscar Preece set up Derek Wall to fire home.

Preece headed home Wall’s long throw in the 25th minute and a trademark Jack Brown free-kick made it 3-0 two minutes later.

A Brown corner caused mayhem in the Bridport box and Jack Summers pounced for 4-0, which became five when Wall teed up Brown for his second.

Charlie Allen made it 6-0 at half-time, shimmying past the defender and slamming home.

Upwey boss Steve Reynolds made five changes at half-time, switching Preece to striker where he obliged with a seventh goal.

Sub Jack Buckland finished off a corner, poking in for 8-0 before fellow sub Pete Jarvis’ attempted pass back was ceased upon by the Bridport striker for 8-1.

With 15 minutes left to play, Preece notched his hat-trick and added a fourth goal as Upwey recorded a staggering tenth goal.

Rolling subs brought Wall back on and the former Bridport striker claimed his second in the 87th minute to pile on the misery for the young Bees.

Speaking to Echosport, Reynolds admitted the score looked misleading given Bridport’s display.

He said: “We started playing some really good football.

“The thing is, because of the scoreline you’d think Bridport were rubbish, but they weren’t.

“We played some great football and scored some of the goals we looked like we should be scoring in the first two games.

“They were better for the first 20 minutes until we scored. They were knocking the ball around and I thought ‘here we go, this is going to be a tight one.’

“I just couldn’t see (11 goals) happening. We had young Reegan Murphy in goal and his handling had to be good.

“They were putting us under more pressure than we were putting them under. I didn’t see that end result coming at that stage.”

Upwey: Murphy, R Walden, Roberts, Sapsworth (Otton 46), J Walden, Summers (Cherry 46), Preece, Allen (Jarvis 46), Hine (Buckland 46), Wall (Biles 46), Brown (Wall 80).
