BLANDFORD United progressed to the Dorset Senior Trophy second round with an emphatic 11-0 victory over Beaminster at Park Road.

Jamie Haylock’s Royals were 7-0 up at half-time and stretched that further when striker Sam Watson smacked his first goal for Blandford.

Watson went on to secure his hat-trick as the Royals put the Rainbows to the sword, Bradley Pike also claiming a treble.

Ben Norman and winger Jack Jones weighed in with braces and the in-form Taylor Pike also got in on the act as Blandford sprinted into the next round.

Speaking to Echosport, Haylock had expected a difficult meeting with the Dorset Senior League side.

“It was a tie I saw as a potential banana skin,” he said.

“I just got into the lads saying ‘these guys will be up for it, are going to play out of their skin and are going to be at us’.

“But as soon as we stepped on that line we were a hundred miles an hour and 3-0 up in 20 minutes and we just kept going.

“That was literally the story for the whole 90 minutes. They had a period of about 20 minutes in the second half but didn’t score. I think they had about two shots the whole game.

“Fair play to Beaminster, they didn’t kick out. They just carried on and kept fighting but we won the ball back quickly and were at them again.”

Royals: M Ford, P Ford, Oliver, Manson, Parry, Hill, J Ford (McCarthy 75), B Pike, T Pike (Watson 60), Jones, Norman (Smith 75).
