WEYMOUTH 2

CHIPPENHAM II 1

WEYMOUTH Ladies overcame Chippenham Seconds 2-1 thanks to a spirited comeback in the West Clubs Women’s League East Division.

In the season opener, both sides took their time to settle into a goalless first half, with most play between the two 25-yard lines.

Weymouth went 1-0 down via an overload from the Chippenham attack, which left Weymouth exposed deep into the second half.

But the Seasiders equalised shortly after as Emily Austin stormed down the right and along the back line before slipping in Caitlin Dive to confidently score.

Weymouth kept up the pressure and dominated as Austin hit the side netting before Susie Stone struck the post from the top of the circle.

Finally, with seconds to spare, Weymouth scored the winner. Austin was again involved, supplying Jemma Brunel who combined with Dive to assist Jo Brazier’s brilliant strike.

Weymouth next take on Team Bath Buccaneers Thirds today (12.30pm).

Player of the match: Emily Austin.

Elsewhere, Weymouth’s men suffered a first defeat in four games against league leaders Poole Seconds in Hampshire League Division Six.

Weymouth’s excellent performance was not reflected by the score as a failure to maintain concentration through the second half ultimately cost the Seasiders.

Weymouth host bottom side Fleet & Ewshot Thirds today (12pm) looking for their third victory of the campaign.
