FORMER Magpies winger Tom Blair will tap into the knowledge of former Bolton and Southampton striker Kevin Davies after sealing a transfer to Eastleigh.

Davies, who is now a football agent after retiring from playing, scouted Blair at Dorchester Town’s Avenue Stadium and helped facilitate the 21-year-old’s professional deal at the Spitfires.

While admitting he was initially starstruck by the renowned Premier League ace, Blair says having Davies in his corner is a “massive advantage”.

He told Echosport: “For me knowing him now, I’ve gone past the point of ‘oh my God, it’s Kevin Davies.’

“Growing up I was watching him and it’s weird he represents me. It’s a massive advantage for me.

“Just having his calibre it makes a huge difference and he’s helped me massively.

“Not just getting the move, but since he started working with me he’s given me tips on the pitch and all those things have added up to get where I am now.

“We’re both attacking players and we can bounce off each other in that aspect.

“It’s not just on the pitch, he can help me off the pitch and he knows so many people. His network is massive and he gives support in fitness aspects.

“He helps in every way, which is a massive boost for me.”

Blair added: “He’s moved down to Poole and I’ve caught his eye playing in a game he was working in.

“He’s got good connections at Eastleigh and he dropped my name in the mix.

“They came to watch me for a few games. Obviously they liked what they saw. I trained for a few weeks and they said ‘yeah, let’s do something.’ Then it was a case of signing a contract.”
