WEYMOUTH boss Brian Stock admitted it would “make sense” to extend the Vanarama National League season into June.

With the collapse of Macclesfield Town, the Terras are due to finish their season one week earlier than their rivals – at Notts County on Saturday, May 22.

However, Stock’s side are set to go a month without a competitive match owing to a Covid-19 outbreak plus Solihull Moors’ own self-isolation period.

To offset the loss of the Moors fixture, Weymouth played an in-house game in preparation for the visit of Chesterfield in seven days’ time.

Wary of a fixture pile-up, Stock would prefer to extend the season over playing twice a week.

He told Echosport: “It’s not ideal and at the start of the season these are the things I was conscious of – having games cancelled and a backlog of games.

“If we fast forward a few months and look towards the end of the season, what we don’t want to be doing is playing three games a week.

“We’re going to have to be quite clever in terms of trying to fit games in when we can.

“Although Yeovil didn’t go ahead, we’ll be looking to put that fixture into place as soon as we can.”

Weymouth trained on Monday evening after completing self-isolation and then had 48 hours of rest before their next session.

Prior to the practice match, Stock added: “It’s an opportunity to get minutes and play on our pitch in an organised in-house game.”
