SPORT teams in Dorset will face no immediate change in tier level, following today's government announcement.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock unveiled only a handful of changes within the tier system, as Dorset remains in Tier 2.

Weymouth can continue to admit fans to home games and eventually hope to reach a capacity of up to 1,900 with social distancing guidelines (SG02).

Currently, the Terras have capped numbers to 450 following breaches of Covid protocols during the 5-1 loss to Halifax in early December.

Dorchester Town, Portland United and Bridport are also expected to continue to welcome spectators.

Dorchester's Southern Premier South campaign is currently paused after clubs in the Southern League voted to freeze league fixtures.

In late November, the RFU had proposals to begin contact rugby accepted by the Government.

However, there will be no scrums or mauls with scrums replaced by a free-kick.

A minimum of five players and maximum of seven are required for a line-out.

Competitive matches are expected to return in 2021, but clubs can continue to play the non-contact Ready4Rugby format.

Elsewhere, gyms remain open, while other grassroots sports are unchanged.
