JASON Tindall admitted Cherries had accepted an offer from Cardiff for Weymouth-born centre-half Jack Simpson but admitted: “What happens beyond that is out of my control.”

The Daily Echo understands a bid of £750,000 was lodged for the Cherries’ academy graduate from the Bluebirds.

Tindall revealed Cardiff made contact on Friday about the 24-year-old but confirmed Simpson was still set to train with Cherries.

Reports also surfaced that Simpson was having second thoughts on a potential switch to join Neil Harris’s side.

Asked for the latest surrounding the defender, the manager told the Daily Echo: “I found out that Cardiff put an offer in for Jack on Friday.

“I think it was late Friday afternoon they made contact with the guys above and put an offer into the football club, that I think was initially rejected – then at some point after that was accepted.

“I don’t know the ins and outs – I don’t really get involved in that sort of thing.

“But I think that’s just credit to Jack and the performances he’s been delivering since he’s been in the team.

“All his hard work while he wasn’t in the team I think has paid off because when he came into the team he delivered some really good performances – hence why such a good and big club like Cardiff have come in for him and want to sign him.

“What happens beyond that is out of my control really. All I can say is I’ve been really happy with Simmo while he has been here.

“What happens moving forward is obviously not down to me. “

Tindall told the Daily Echo in November he saw Simpson as a “big part” of the club’s future

Asked whether that showed how quickly football can change, the manager replied: “It does. It just goes to show that if you perform well then there is going to be interest in you from other clubs and that’s credit to Jack.

“I know he’s only got six months on his contract (at Cherries) which might sort of influence the situation.

“But Simmo in his time here and certainly in my time as manager – he’s trained extremely well and when he’s delivered solid performances and I’ve been really pleased with him.

“What happens beyond that remains to be seen.”

Quizzed on whether Cherries has previously spoken with Simpson regarding his contract, Tindall replied: “I know they had been speaking in the background but, as I said, I don’t get involved in contract negotiations or when offers come in.

“Whether they get accepted or whether they get rejected – that’s above my head.

“But like a lot of players that are coming out of contract, things are going on in the background a lot of the time – that I’m not aware of until I need to be aware of.”
