NATIONAL League chiefs will meet tomorrow to discuss financial support for its 66 member clubs, including Weymouth.

Courtesy of a £10m National Lottery grant, clubs in the National League – plus its north and south divisions – were able to begin the season.

In response to financial shortfalls across the UK sporting world in the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government unveiled a £300m Winter Survival Package.

However, while an extra £11m was promised to help National League teams complete the campaign, it now appears that cash will come in the form of a loan, not a grant.

Following meetings earlier this week, clubs have been asked by league chiefs for their preference on three options.

Firstly, low-interest long-term loans. Secondly, the National League taking on the whole loan and issuing grants to clubs with future payments to teams reduced. Lastly, to suspend fixtures.

Numerous clubs in the National League South have voiced their backing for the second and third options.

Concord Rangers have voluntarily halted all activity – despite the threat of sanctions.

Havant & Waterlooville, meanwhile, will self-isolate for 10 days due to safety concerns over Covid-19. Slough have also chosen to sit out this weekend’s game at Eastbourne.

Others want to continue lobbying the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport to turn the £11m into grants.

National League officials expect clubs to continue fixtures this weekend and next week.
