DORCHESTER Town midfielder Sam Bayston will run a gruelling 200km for charity this February.

Bayston is hoping to raise £750 in support of Prostate Cancer UK and has set up a Go Fund Me page for donations.

The former Wimborne winger will be joined by ex-Magpies boss and Stars Academy colleague Callum Brooks plus a number of current players.

Speaking to Echosport about the challenge, Bayston will combine his running with teaching duties.

“It’s pretty tough,” he said. “It works out about 7.2 kilometres a day.

“Hopefully on the weekends I should be able to crack a good 15 kilometres on the Saturday and 15 on the Sunday.

“It should give me a day off in the week! I’ll have to see how my body copes, I should be able to do it.

“We do the trackers with Connor (Toland, data analyst) at Dorch and he always said everyone should be getting double figures when we play 90 minutes.

“Most of us will get between 10 and 12 kilometres depending on the game. That’s what I’ll be aiming for, it just depends what I can get done every evening.

“Twenty-eight days is a long time to run every evening – I’ll need a couple of days off just to recover.”

Bayston also thanked his fellow Magpies for their support.

“A lot of the directors and the chairman (Scott Symes) have sponsored and couple of the players,” he revealed.

“They’ve put it on their social media stories to share around, which is brilliant.

“I imagine I’ll have a few joining me on a couple of runs in the evenings. I live local to the Poole and Bournemouth boys like Billy Lowes.

“I’ll be getting them along with me to do some runs!”

Asked what he considered to be the most challenging aspect of his fundraiser, Bayston said: “With the day job it’s not like I can have my feet up.

“It’s quite strenuous at work with the children and everything with the key workers.

“I’m teaching all day and the motivation to do every single day is going to be tough.

“I will do it, no problem, but there’s going to be a breaking point halfway through the month where my body’s in tatters!

“The quicker I can get it done in the month, the better.”
