Weymouth itching to play Solihull Moors after two weeks off

Stock’s men have twice built up a head of steam in this season, only to be hit by enforced breaks.

Following an impressive 2-1 win at Stockport in October, most of Weymouth’s squad contracted Covid-19 and did not play for a month.

And the Terras’ latest two-week gap in matches comes courtesy of two postponements caused by frozen pitches – stalling a healthy run of three wins in five games.

Speaking to Echosport ahead of tomorrow’s clash at the Bob Lucas Stadium, Stock expressed his frustration at events conspiring against his side.

“I think there’s a momentum stopper out there somewhere,” he said.

“Off the back of Stockport we go down for (four) weeks.

“We’ve come off the back of a recent run of good form and postponements – I wouldn’t say they’ve set us sideways – but when you’re playing well you don’t want games to be called off.

“Moving on to Solihull, they’re a fascinating team and when I look at one or two individual players even I’ve played against one or two.

“They’ve got a nice blend of experience and youth and a really interesting way of how they want to play football both in and out of possession.”

Revealing which of the Moors’ players he’s shared a pitch with, Stock said former Ireland international striker Adam Rooney and ex-Northern Ireland forward Jamie Ward.

Stock added: “They’ve got Rooney and Jamie Ward. Whether they’ll play against us will remain to be seen, but they go back quite a few years, especially Jamie.

“I think I played against him while he was at Chesterfield, all those years ago.”

To combat the break in games, Weymouth completed an in-house game in midweek which served the dual purpose of resting selected players and giving match minutes to more squad members.

Terras’ skipper Josh McQuoid and winger Sean Shields are in contention after recent injuries, while striker Andy Dallas is available after extending his loan from League Two leaders Cambridge United.
