“GUTTED” Weymouth boss Brian Stock admitted the 3-1 derby loss to Yeovil Town at Huish Park was “very disappointing”.

Rhys Murphy bagged a third-minute goal to set the Glovers on their way after Terras’ keeper Ethan Ross dropped a cross, with the Weymouth defence’s calls for a foul falling on deaf ears.

Jacob Mensah then equalised with his first goal for Weymouth and the Terras dominated the remainder of the first half without scoring.

Murphy reacted quickest from a Ross parry to make it 2-1 and Weymouth saw several chances go begging before the striker wrapped up his hat-trick in the 82nd minute.

Albi Skendi also hit the post late on but a 3-1 scoreline slightly flattered Yeovil as Weymouth showed vast improvement on January’s 3-0 loss.

After seeing Weymouth beaten for the second time by Yeovil in the Vanarama National League, Stock made clear his ambition to recover the Terras’ recent good form.

He told Echosport: “I know the result isn’t ideal. For the fans to wait that long and not get a result over our rivals is very disappointing.

“I’ve said to the players it’s important that we don’t forget what we’ve done over the last six or seven games.

“I do feel we’re a different team compared to what we played in the first game. I felt we were bullied off the pitch and didn’t give ourselves a fighting chance.

“Whereas, although we ran out 3-1 losers, I don’t think there was too much in the game.

“They had a few chances, but so did we. They were clinical in their finishing, especially with the third goal.”

Weymouth created chances throughout, with Sean Shields and Ben Thomson going close.

Asked if Weymouth’s finishing was satisfactory, Stock said: “I would say no, because we didn’t score again.

“We put the ball in good areas and set-pieces we looked a problem. We had plenty of corners, shots on goal.

“I felt even at 2-1 with the introduction of Ben, he caused a lot of problems in behind.

“On another day Thommo would’ve scored a couple. I’m just disappointed, I’m gutted for the boys.”

He added: “When I look at my debrief to the players, we’ve got a lot of youngsters in there.
