SEVEN Weymouth players will be furloughed, according to manager Brian Stock.

The Terras have been in active discussions with the seven, who were not present at training this week.

It is understood Weymouth will seek a 'flexi-furlough' to enable a seven-day recall on any of the selected seven.

Weymouth are still waiting on some of the players to sign relevant paperwork in acceptance of being placed on the Government's Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.

And the Terras are also keen to keep the names of the seven under wraps, although they are widely expected to be players that have struggled for game time this season.

Speaking to Echosport, Stock said: "We've had discussions with the club and have actively spoken to the players.

"We're just trying to work with the players in terms of how we manage their furlough.

"We need to make sure one or two of the players are happy with the decision.

"It's up to us to come to an agreement on any money they might lose in comparison to what their contract states."

Asked if any players were currently on furlough, Stock replied: "Yeah. Players have to agree to go on furlough, so there is a double-edged sword.

"We have spoken to seven players which I think the club can furlough. They weren't present at training on Tuesday, although some of them haven't signed the agreement.

"I've actively told the players it's not my decision to negotiate what money they might lose, that's down to the club.

"I'd like to think that everyone connected to the club - players, staff - understand the reasons for my decisions.

"It won't come as a surprise for some of the players due to inactivity and not being involved in the squad for some time.

"Down the flexi route, it's one of those where they might come back in for a training session a week, or might (fully) come back.

"We've got that flexibility to do that."
