WEYMOUTH host promotion-chasing Stockport County tomorrow (3pm), looking to do the double after their superb 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture.

Following that win, most of the Weymouth squad contracted Covid-19, leading to a two-week self-isolation period.

Spirits are high in the Terras’ camp after training in midweek, with players put through an arduous session on Tuesday before a more light-hearted session involving footgolf on Wednesday.

Final preparations were made for third-placed Stockport in yesterday’s session.

Ahead of the Vanarama National League clash, Stock said: “We’re a little bit scarred from the trip back from Stockport.

“But it would be nice to get the opportunity to get the double over a side who I regard as a very big club in this division.

“When you look at their performances, their structure and players at their disposal they will expect to be in the top six, if not top two, by the end of the season.”

Reflecting on the Terras’ victory over County, Stock said: “Our second-half display that day was excellent.

“It’s probably the bravest I’ve seen us on the ball. Although it was a great performance and a fantastic three points, we’re a different outfit now.

“Although that day I felt we fully deserved to take the points, when you look at the line-up that day compared to what we’ll line up (tomorrow), it’ll be a lot different."

He added: “I want us to finish the season out of the relegation zone, pick up as many points as we can.

“Performances at home have improved, confidence is starting to grow in the group. Don’t underestimate going to King’s Lynn and picking up a valuable point.

“We go into the game full of confidence and we’ll be doing all we can to stay strong, field the best team and accumulate as many points as we can.”

While skipper Josh McQuoid almost travelled to King’s Lynn last time out, Stock revealed the striker has made good progress from a hamstring injury in midweek.

He said: “I made the decision to leave him back, build his fitness over the weekend and work him hard on Tuesday.

“We’ve tested his hamstring as much as we possibly can. With previous injuries with his hamstring we’ve made that decision to look after him so that we’ve got him for the rest of the season.”

Stock was also pleased with goalkeeper Gerard Benfield’s positive reaction to recent disciplinary issues.

“Gerard has reacted (well). I can’t ask any more from a player,” he said.

“He’s come from playing week in, week out to then becoming a number two at this present moment under my management.

“For him to be able to remain focused is something that’s been tricky for him.

“I think Gerard’s a fantastic lad and sometimes one or two things have arisen in training.

“I never hold grudges and he’s come back into training, he’s worked hard and travelled to King’s Lynn, stayed with us and warmed up Ethan (Ross) brilliantly.

“He’s turned a corner in terms of everything that went against him over the last two or three weeks.”
