WEYMOUTH have signed centre-back Ben Morgan from Gloucester City for a small undisclosed fee.

Morgan made 22 appearances for the Tigers this season as City climbed to the top of the Vanarama National League North standings.

Standing at 1.99m tall, the 22-year-old joins to the end of the 2021/22 season and has experience with Swansea City and Bristol Rovers.

His signing is a sensitive issue for the club, who furloughed seven players, but Weymouth felt the opportunity was too good to miss.

In signing Morgan, boss Brian Stock is looking to next season when loanee Dom Revan will return to Aston Villa.

Morgan has been thrust into today's side to play Torquay United.

Stock told Echosport: “He came in and trained one day and I acted upon it very quickly.

“We agreed a very, very small compensation fee with Gloucester.

“I’m going against my word in signing players for this season, but Ben will be signing for this season and until the end of next season.

“Gloucester gave him permission to come in and train and he was at Swansea as a kid from eight to 18.

“He did a three-year pro (spell) at Bristol Rovers and moved, signed at Gloucester. He’s had a good season, which got cut short and we’ve stepped in to take him on.

“I think he’s got massive potential and he would have had a lot of interest if we’d have left it any longer.”
