DORCHESTER Town manager Robbie Herrera has identified the Magpies players he would like to keep at the Avenue Stadium next season.

Former QPR and Fulham left-back Herrera has already parted company with centre-back Josiah Dunstan in the off-season.

The list of Dorchester players notified by Herrera as targets to stay includes, but is not limited to, defenders Tiago Sa, Charlie Madden, Ashley Wells, Oakley Hanger and Sam Davidson, midfielders Billy Lowes, Harry Hodges and Sam Bayston plus striker Tom Bath.

Further talks are expected with the remainder of Dorchester’s squad, although contracts have not been signed.

Possible new signings are also being pinpointed as Herrera looks to begin dealings in the player market.

He told Echosport: “I’ve spoken to the boys in question that I’d like to keep, they’re good enough for the squad.

“These lads are obviously open to offers from other clubs. If somebody comes in and offers them another 20, 30 quid then I’m sure they’ll get their heads down.

“I’ve told them I’d like them to be involved as part of the squad for next season.

“If I can add the ones I’m looking to add – four or five lads – and get them to play the way I want, I’m hoping it will be a better season for everyone at Dorchester Town.”

Herrera and chairman Scott Symes have also tentatively discussed a budget for the 2021/22 campaign.

“At this level, players are mercenaries,” he admitted. “If someone offers them another 20 quid then they’re off.

“There’s not a lot you can do unless you’ve got them under contract. We’ll see when the time comes.

“I’ll be speaking to Scott. We have had chats about budget and we’ll sit down and go through it.

“When I start adding bodies, to see where it takes us, I’ll see if I can squeeze a little bit more out of him.

“For me to do that, when we start the season, we need to hit the ground running.”
