CALVIN Brooks described chalking up 300 games for Weymouth as a “real privilege”.

Brooks, 26, achieved the landmark during the 2-1 win over Altrincham on Saturday.

The former Yeovil and Dorchester right-back was substituted with a hip issue in the 75th minute.

Brooks has won 150 matches in Terras colours with 71 draws and 79 losses, and is also one of just 20 players to reach 300 Weymouth appearances since World War Two.

Speaking to Echosport about his milestone, Brooks said: “It’s something I’ve had my eye on for a little while.

“Duncan (Gardner, statistician) has tweeted me every other game for the last six months just letting me know where I am!

“It’s a real privilege to be able to be here that long. It doesn’t happen that much in football any more, especially in modern times.

“It’s a great achievement but I’ll look to press on now. Hopefully I’ve got a few more years left.”

Having his say on loyalty in football, Brooks added: “It’s from both sides, you don’t see players that are loyal to a club but also the club to the player.

“The club’s gone up the divisions and shown loyalty and faith in me to keep turning me out in the starting XI every week.

“I can only repay the faith they’ve put in me.”

Joining the Terras at Southern League level, Brooks has been a mainstay of a Weymouth team that has jumped two divisions in two years.

Asked how difficult adapting to a higher standard has been, Brooks said: “I’ve enjoyed it, it makes it easier because you’ve got a constant new challenge.

“If you’re playing in the same league for eight, nine years maybe it can become stale.

“I’ve just found it a really good challenge stepping up the leagues. I’ve had faith in myself that I could do it if it came to it.

“I think I’ve done all right, but I could do a bit better.”

Terras’ manager Brian Stock has deployed Brooks at right-back, right-wing and right-midfield this season and he can also be used as an emergency goalkeeper if called upon.

“I was playing right-back for the majority of the start of the season, which I was really enjoying,” he said.

“Then we’ve got Brennan (Camp) here as well and that’s one of his favourite positions.

“I’m just one of those players that’s happy to be in the team. My preferred position is to play right-back but if the gaffer says he needs me to play right-mid, I’ll play right-mid.

“Wherever he needs me to play, I’ve played in goal here!”

Weymouth are officially safe from the bottom three, achieving their aim of staying up on merit despite no relegation this season.
