PORTLAND United have added three promising young goalkeepers to their ranks for the 2021/22 campaign.

Mike Edgar, Josh Lucas and Sam Moggeridge have all signed forms for the Blues’ next Wessex League season.

They join teammates Ryan McKechnie, Ben Morris, Oli Lowes, Harry Hutchinson and Lewis Clarke at the Camp & Satherley Stadium.

Commenting on Edgar, boss Franklyn Clarke said: “Mike came in last year when Josh suffered his injury and put in a brilliant performance away v Lymington.

“He fitted into the group really well. He has been at the club previously and also knew a lot of the lads we already have, which of course helps.

“Mike is a personal trainer and is constantly keeping himself in fantastic shape.

“Mike is another one who has trained really well over the past couple of months and we have been really impressed with him.

“Mike is another ambitious young player and we are excited to see what he produces this season.”

On Lucas, Clarke added: “I’m really pleased to have Josh on board again for the forthcoming season.

“Josh suffered a nasty hand injury last season and has been out for a while.

“Speaking with Josh he is now allowed to start working towards a return and he seems to be working hard on getting back.

“Wessex League football was a new challenge for Josh and I think he adapted really well to it.

“He made some fantastic saves in games but just like all our young lads, and even experienced players, he has parts of his game he wants to improve on.

“I know with Josh he will work hard on doing this He’s another young player who is keen to learn and improve.”

Finally, Clarke said of Moggeridge: “We have been training all together; our new U18s, reserves and first team and Sam stood out with some top performances.

“Yes, it’s training, but it was a chance to show us what he could do and he certainly did that.

“Sam is not only a good shot stopper but is very good with the ball at his feet, too, which is an important attribute to have in today’s game.

“If he continues to produce the same then I can see Sam coming along the pathway that we have put together now at Portland.

“Sam deserved to sign first-team forms and we are very happy with him.”
