PORTLAND United have completed deals for four more players ahead of the 2021/22 Wessex League season.

Lance Wilson, Greg Borthwick, George Carter and Nate Kelly are the latest payers signed by manager Franklyn Clarke.

It takes the tally of Blues signings to 18 this summer.

Speaking to Portland’s media team, Clarke said of Wilson: “I’m happy to have Lance sign first-team forms, his performances in the sessions we’ve held have been impressive.

“Lance is a very technical player, has tremendous feet (and) if he can add a couple of other bits to his game then he’s another one who has potential to be a decent player for us.

“Lance is a good lad who comes in and goes about his business in a professional manner; he is great to work with.”

On Borthwick, Clarke added: “Very happy to have Greg re-sign. He’s another player who we brought through from the reserves.

“He has a lot of attributes that can cause defenders problems; he’s a good size, strong and athletic.

“Greg’s commitment is outstanding. He’s always working to be the best version of himself possible.

“Greg’s a good age and hopefully he can produce his best football this coming season in a blue shirt.”

Clarke wants Carter to push for a place in the first team. He said: “George is another young lad who has the potential to be a good player for us.

“As with all the young lads we have, it requires patience.

“George is an aggressive defender who is always on the front foot and plays with a real determination.

“George needs to gain experience playing men’s football and I think he will continue to improve and hopefully push the first-team centre-backs.”

Finally, Clarke said of Kelly: “Nate has really impressed me at all of the training sessions we have held.

“He’s one of those players who can just produce that bit of magic. Nate is very skilful and in one v one situations, dangerous.

“Nate has fantastic quality in terms of crosses into the box and shooting.

“I’m confident that if Nate continues to progress in the same manner, then I’m hopeful he could make a number of first-team appearances this season.”

Marcus Smith, Harry Thomas, Josh Leake, Caleb Tennant, Louis Hankin and Reece Frost also joined this week.

Goalkeepers Mike Edgar, Josh Lucas and Sam Moggeridge plus captain Ryan McKechnie, vice-captain Ben Morris and Oli Lowes, Harry Hutchinson and Lewis Clarke last week penned deals at the Camp & Satherley Stadium.
