BELLE Construction picked up a 43-29 win over New Body Fitness in a high-quality South & West Dorset Premier League encounter.

Belle started this inter-club game strongly, with good movement through the court and the attacking circle.

Belle C Ashleigh Browne also put in some strong defensive work for her team. New Body’s defence stepped up towards the end of the quarter and, thanks to an impressive intercept from GK Laura Howell, they managed to close the gap.

New Body’s defence continued their form in the second quarter, which was rewarded by their shooters. However, Belle’s good control of possession and accurate shooting allowed them to further increase their lead going into the final quarter.

New Body continued their high intensity but Belle’s control and vision into the shooting circle won them the game.

EXPERT CATERING 45

CANNADOX 42

THIS close Premier Division encounter, which saw Expert Catering sneak a 45-42 win over Cannadox, began explosively with both teams’ defences causing disruption to their opposition’s attack.

Some end-to-end play throughout the first half kept this match close but Cannadox’s GS Stacey Groves 100 per cent shooting accuracy ensured her team led by one at half-time.

The second half continued in much the same way as the first, with fast-paced and competitive play from both sides.

Expert’s WA Lauren Kenney and C Emma Bright provided their shooters with some excellent feeds, meaning Expert took the lead going into the last quarter.

Cannadox’s defence stepped up their pressure at the start of the fourth quarter and disrupted Expert’s flow, while their shooters continued their accurate shooting.

Expert eventually managed to keep the Cannadox shooters out of the circle and forced them into making mistakes. Expert capitalised on these mistakes and secured a slim three-goal win.

LULWORTH LIGHTNING 35

COASTAL CHEESE 37

IN DIVISION One, there was another close match as Lulworth lost 37-35 to Coastal Cheese.

Both teams started well but the direct passes and determination of Lulworth, combined with the strength in the circle from GS Sofia Voss, saw them storm into the lead during the first quarter.

Coastal, however, increased their intensity and work rate, scoring 13 goals to Lulworth’s five in the second quarter.

The second half started with energetic play and great interceptions from both teams, as this game was now very close and competitive.

Umpires Ali Holmes and Chantelle Halloran kept good control of the game and Coastal shooters Lauren Oates and Eve Montgomery worked together, kept their composure and maintained the lead for their team.

Lulworth continued to work hard and move the ball well in their attacking end but ultimately could not take the lead from Coastal.

MERAKI 40

SANDSFOOT SIRENS 44

SANDSFOOT bounced back from their defeat last week to put in a winning performance against Meraki, securing a 44-40 victory in Division Two.

Sandsfoot defenders Hollie Davies and Amy Dummer applied strong pressure on Meraki’s shooters, however the first quarter remained very even.

Meraki started the second quarter well, while Sandsfoot took time to settle into some team changes made at quarter time.

Sandsfoot GA Lexie Davies came on and confidently put up shots to keep her team in the match, however Meraki’s midcourt picked up valuable ball and they took a narrow lead into half-time.

Team changes for Meraki saw Sian Whitlock move to GA and instantly have an impact with some early long shots.

Sandsfoot, however, displayed great teamwork to stay in touch going into the fourth quarter. The game became a scrappy battle in the final quarter, as both teams fought for the win.

Sandsfoot were the more composed of the two teams and managed to secure their first ever win.
