STRIKER Ben Thomson has extended his spell at Weymouth into a seventh season.

The popular forward is the fifth front man to sign for the Terras this summer after skipper Josh McQuoid, Brandon Goodship, Brad Ash and Tom Bearwish.

He is manager Brian Stock's 13th signing ahead of the new Vanarama National League campaign, which is due to begin on Saturday, August 21.

Thompson has made 242 appearances in the claret and blue shirt, scoring 64 times.

Thomson joined the Terras from Frome Town at the start of the 2015/16 season and has been promoted twice, winning three trophies in the past two years.

Vice-chairman Paul Maitland told uptheterras.co.uk: "Thommo has played a major part in putting us where we are today, last season was a difficult year for Thommo with Covid and injury causing his season to be stop-start.

"We look forward to him showing the National League what he is all about."

Thomson scored the third goal in the 3-0 win over Farnborough that crowned Weymouth as Southern League champions in 2019.

He went on to add a memorable double in a 2-1 win at Maidstone on Weymouth's return to the National League South.

His only goal last season came away to Wealdstone last season, although he registered two assists.

Thomson joins his fellow four strikers plus goalkeeper Gerard Benfield, defenders Ben Morgan, Calvin Brooks, Josh Leslie-Smith and Ollie Harfield plus midfielders Andy Robinson, Sean Shields and Cameron Murray.
