DORCHESTER Town will be running the rule over numerous triallists during their first pre-season friendly of the summer tomorrow (3pm).

The Magpies welcome Wessex League side Hamworthy United to the Avenue Stadium – victims of a 7-0 defeat to Dorchester in Dorset Senior Cup action 16 months ago.

For Dorchester, the fixture represents a first game for almost seven months due to the coronavirus-doomed 2020/21 season.

And manager Robbie Herrera is eager to get back out onto the pitch, although stressed his main concern is topping up fitness after five training sessions this summer.

He told Echosport: “We’re looking forward to it, we had another couple of sessions beforehand.

“It will be more about getting the minutes into the players, we need to get their match fitness – it’s obviously different to training.

“The next few games will be more about getting the minutes in.

“The closer we get towards the start of our season and a settled side, there’s no doubt I’ll get to look at a few bodies in the next few weeks during these games.

“Once we start getting towards the nitty gritty it’ll be a bit more settled and we can concentrate on the league.”

Dorchester are currently in talks with two new midfielders but on the prospect of triallists, Herrera added: “We’ll be chopping and changing.

“It won’t be great as a spectacle but I need to get a look at some of the bodies that are coming in and being involved.”

Dorchester have so far signed nine players for the 2021/22 season.
