CONSISTENCY was the name of the game for Brad Jones as he secured a triple race finish in the second round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Knockhill, write Kerry Rawson and Neil Walton.

Stalbridge rider Jones, who had suffered two DNFs in the opening round at Oulton Park, this time secured two 18th-place finishes and a 19th among the 28-strong field.

The 23-year-old made the 10-hour journey up to the Scottish circuit and throughout the free practice sessions got plenty of laps on his BMW M1000RR, making improvements to his lap time throughout.

After a challenging qualifying, Jones headed into the first 22-lap race of the weekend with a positive mindset.

Throughout the weekend Jones worked hard with his iForce Lloyd & Jones BMW team to make adjustments to the bike to make it work better for him, and ultimately improve his lap times and positions.

From race one to race three, Jones improved his fastest lap time from a 49.1 to a 48.4 and to add to that improved his overall race time by five seconds.

After a hectic weekend, Jones said. “Overall round two has been productive, we’ve made big improvements across the weekend and I feel myself and the team have made a step.

“The actual positions might not show we’ve made progress but in terms of lap time and race pace we’ve taken good steps forward.

“I believe the next step will be more evident on the result sheets and that motivates me to keep working hard at it.”

With three good finishes across the weekend, Jones added: “My next goal is to get some top-15 finishes which will put me in a points-scoring position, and then from there we will aim to keep moving up the results sheet.

“Now I really look forward to Brands Hatch in two weeks.”

Jones will travel to Brands Hatch for round three on Friday, July 23 to Sunday, July 25 – live on Eurosport.
