SHAFTESBURY'S Spirit Moto Corsa scored a double podium at Knockhill thanks to rider Jamie Perrin in British GP2 action.

The 28-year-old rode a superb race to finish second in the sprint race, fighting against Charlie Nesbitt for victory.

A great start put him into the lead on the opening lap, which he held for the first half of the 20-lap race. In the end, he fell short of victory by just a couple of seconds.

He then backed that up that result with a third-place finish in the Feature Race.

On the other side of the garage, Mason Law claimed fifth and fourth position in the two races. His weekend was hampered by a few niggling issues and unfortunate moments.

Perrin said: "I had a shaky start to the weekend with a technical problem in FP1 and then I made a mistake in qualifying and ended up in the Scottish gravel! However, I made good progress in both races.

"I came away with second and third in class, but I am also happy that we are going in the right direction in the overall results (combined Supersport/GP2).

"It was nice to taste champagne again as I hadn't stepped onto the podium since my injury in 2019. I'm looking looking forward to the rest of the season and to keep progressing."

Law said: "Knockhill was a new track for the Spirit SP2 which came with some setup challenges. It was a challenge we were excited to take on, however there was a chain of events where we didn't have the best of luck. I'm not someone who pulls the luck card, but we didn't have a lot of it.

"It started with a bad qualifying which put me far down the grid at a track where it is hard to overtake. I made a good start in race one but got caught up in someone else's battle and lost a few places.

"Then on lap two the bike started to overheat, which resulted in a significant loss of power. So that was a very painful race and meant my fastest lap wasn't that good, which meant I started even further down the grid on Sunday.

"Again, I got a good start but was held up by someone crashing in front of me at the hairpin. Then, a few laps later, someone else flicked themselves out of their sit in front of me, causing me to come to all but a stop.

"I managed to claw back positions and my lap times were similar to the group in front, but I was just too far back.

"It was a tough weekend, something I haven't had for a while, but there was lots learned and when the good weekends come it will make them feel even better."

Round three takes place at Brands Hatch from Friday, July 23. The team has good memories at the track, having picked up the GP2 title with a double victory for Law last year.
