DORSET captain Luke Webb believes the NCCA Championship clash with Wiltshire at Wimborne is “really good for the county”.

Wimborne is the second Dorset ground to host the county this month after Dorchester entertained Devon in their final NCCA Trophy group game.

And with recent good weather belting down on the Leaze deck, Webb feels the facilities will be top drawer.

He told Echosport: “There’s been a lot of work done on the ground and we had a pre-season training session there – it looked a picture.

“From what I’ve heard, it’s playing really well. To play at Wimborne as the first three-day game at home is great for the local clubs.

“Hopefully it will be a good occasion and we’ll get a lot of people down to watch if the weather is OK.

“Similar to what happened at Dorchester, it’s really good for the county.”

Dorset drew at Cheshire in their opening game of Western Division One – a contest they might have won were it not for rain washing out the majority of the second day.

“I was pretty happy with how we played in Cheshire,” Webb admitted.

“Cheshire are always strong and Cheshire away in a three-day fixture is always going to be tough.

“To control the game like we did was really pleasing. We put a score on the board with the bat, a real team effort with contributions all the way down.

“Then, although we were up against it and they were in a strong position, we fought back and gave ourselves a lead.

“I’m confident that if time wasn’t taken out of that game we’d have gone on to win.

“So, a pleasing start but another tough game coming up against Wiltshire.”

Wiltshire have already beaten Dorset this summer, taking a 14-run victory at Bashley in the NCCA Trophy.

Webb said: “We play Wiltshire quite a lot, being neighbours we play them in all formats.

“We’re pretty familiar with their team and know you’re coming up against a talented side.

“We know we’ll have to be at our absolute best for three days if we want to win the game.

“They did well in the end to draw against Berkshire, they fought back well. So they’ll be feeling positive off that result.

“It will be a good challenge for us but hopefully we’ll be looking to get a win on the board.

“With only four games in the division and the first game rain-affected, you want to get a win quite early to put yourselves in a good position.

“It’s a small group, so one win can probably put you in control. Similarly, a loss can put you in trouble and put pressure on the other games.

“To be honest, I’m not too worried about that. I’m more focussed on the team playing well session by session. The results and group standings will take care of themselves.”

Dorset make just one change to the side that travelled to Cheshire, with Jacob Gordon replacing Harry Fisher.

Dorset will also field county under-18 players as 12th man on each day.

Dorset: Digby, Eckland, Ellis, Fletcher, Gordon, Pack, Soames, Trodd, Webb, Willows, Woodruff.
