BRIDPORT manager Rob Marquis expects a “period of adjustment” for the Bees ahead of a testing trip to Shepton Mallet tonight (7.30pm).

Bridport lost their first Toolstation Western League Premier Division game of the season 7-1 to Helston Athletic on Saturday.

Mallet, who beat Cadbury Heath 6-0 on Saturday, now lie in wait for an inexperienced Bees side.

Marquis said: “It’s not an easy start and it is a rebuilding project. That’s not disrespectful to the lads in any way.

“We’ve got some very able players and I think there’s going to be a period of adjustment.

“There’s no point beating them up trying to go again. I’ve got a job on my hands trying to get them up for (Shepton Mallet).

“Who’s going to want to rush up to Shepton Mallet thinking they’re in for another tough night?”

Bridport are set to welcome back an experienced utility player for the trip to Somerset.

“We’ll make a couple of adjustment. Kris Hastings will probably come in,” Marquis revealed.

“I think nailing down the roles and what we expect from the players is going to be more important.

“I’m going to have to get across what I want them to do in certain scenarios, clarify what we’re expecting.”

Bridport have a full-fit squad with the exception of the trio of self-isolating players, who missed both the Portland friendly and the Helston contest.
