WEYMOUTH boss Brian Stock admits striker Ben Thomson could be loaned out to gain match fitness later in the season.

Thomson has made 242 appearances for Weymouth, scoring 64 goals across six seasons.

However, ahead of his seventh, the striker has been suffering with a suspected Achilles problem which has disrupted his pre-season.

“We’re going to need a second opinion on Ben,” Stock told Echosport.

“He’s struggling. It was his calf and now it’s his Achilles.

“In terms of minutes and what he’s done pre-season he’s way off the mark in terms of coming back to full fitness.

“He might be one that we probably look to get some time – whether that be in the under-23s or potentially as a loan just to build up his fitness.”

Thomson only scored one goal last season – in the 2-1 loss at Wealdstone – but he recorded two assists.
