BRIDPORT 1 BITTON 8

BRIDPORT suffered their heaviest defeat of the Toolstation Western League Premier Division season with an 8-1 thumping by leaders Bitton.

Bitton blitzed the Bees in the first 20 minutes, missing seven excellent chances before Ashley Kington broke the deadlock.

Joe McLennan made it 2-0 before a fine goal from Bailey McNamara, who dummied Ton keeper Daniel Worton before sliding home.

However, Bitton underlined their promotion credentials as Ben Withey and Sean Keet made it 4-1 before half-time.

Dean Griffiths made it 5-1 seconds after the restart, darting past Jordon Scadding before hitting the empty net.

Bitton then scored three in 12 minutes as Kington, McLennan and Keet all grabbed their braces for 8-1.

Bridport still had 20 minutes to see out and avoided double figures thanks to some heroic blocks from centre-half Dan Baggs.

Speaking post-match, Bees’ boss Rob Marquis said: “We were completely outclassed in all departments.

“They’re the best outfit we’ve faced this season, without a shadow.

“What more can you say? It’s very difficult. We can only try and improve.

“Having spent some time at Shaftesbury, I’d say the Western League is far more punishing than the Wessex League.

“They’re all saying the league is stronger this year, which doesn’t help our cause.”

He added: “When Bitton did score, Jordon had made some very good saves. Had we been 3-0 (down) before they did score, it probably wouldn’t have been an unfair reflection.

“They’d had a few chances and spurned a few. The goal was the brightest note of our game.

“Then we go and concede more. We’re behind in lots of departments and that’s not me beating the lads up. That’s me being realistic.”
