BERE Regis will play a straight bat in the Dorset Funeral Plan Premier League’s final weekend as they visit title-chasing Poole Town tomorrow (1pm).

With Dorchester on a bye weekend, Poole must earn 12 points from the available 20 against Bere to clinch the title and deny Dorchester a hat-trick of trophies.

Bere are currently on a run of six straight wins and could end up third with a victory, provided Martinstown lose at Christchurch.

Bere captain Brian Keegan insists the title battle between Poole and Dorchester is “not our concern”.

Yet Keegan denied having a say in the title defence – and possibly denying rivals Dorchester – was their motivation.

He told Echosport: “The situation with Poole and Dorchester that’s not our concern at all.

“Our concern is to finish the season strongly and do what we’ve been doing for the last six weeks.

“It would be nice to hit 10 wins for the season. From where we’ve come from it’s definite progress and another building block to get to where we want to be.

“We’re not worried who ends up winning the league. If Poole have got one eye on that and it affects their performance, hopefully that will benefit us.

“Other than that it’s a case of business as normal for Bere.

“If anybody starts talking about Dorchester or Poole winning the league, they’ll be told in no uncertain terms to park it!”

Bere are without star spinner Sean Walbridge (unavailable) but Tim Goodhew returns from a hamstring strain.

Bere’s second team require just eight points against Ashmore tomorrow (1.30pm) to seal promotion to County Division Three.

Meanwhile, Martinstown are sitting pretty in third place and know a victory over Christchurch tomorrow (1pm) would secure their highest finish in Dorset’s top tier.

Town skipper Sam Kershaw said: “It would be nice to finish behind Poole and Dorchester because they’re the best two teams this year.

“It’s right they’re at the top and if we stay behind them it would be brilliant.

“With Christchurch, they’ve shocked a few people with how badly they’ve done – they’re a lot better than (bottom).

“We want to finish off, have a bit of enjoyment – that’s the main thing. It’s going to be a long winter.”

Martinstown: Gerety, Kershaw, Maltby, S Williams, H White, T White, Hill, Je Stewart, Jo Stewart, Durant, Ja Stewart.

Town’s seconds host Sturminster & Hinton in County Division Three tomorrow (1.30pm).

County Division One champions Puddletown contest their final game against Witchampton at Plush tomorrow (1.30pm).

Puddle wrapped up the title despite a 49-run loss to Swanage last time out, sealing an incredible fourth straight promotion.

Captain Adam Barrett said: “It’s a nice feeling heading into the final game knowing we’ve already wrapped up the league title.

“It will be a good opportunity for us to enjoy the game without any pressure.

“We get on well with the Witchampton lads and they are comfortably safe from relegation.

“With nothing riding on the fixture, it could be a good opportunity for both sides to experiment.

Puddletown: Re Norman, Porter, Barrett, Weir, Eastment, C Chaldecott, S Chaldecott, Ry Norman, J Morris, D Morris, Fowler.

Puddletown’s seconds host Blandford Seconds tomorrow in a winner-takes-all promotion shoot-out in County Division Five North & West tomorrow (1.30pm).

Elsewhere in Division One, Weymouth are looking to finish their season with back-to-back wins.

Tomorrow (1.30pm) at Redlands they host a Marnhull side that scored 94 runs in the final 10 overs during the reverse fixture to snatch an unlikely tie.

Seasiders’ skipper Harry Mitchell said: “In recent years we’ve had some good games against Marnhull.

“They’re a young, competitive side and it’s always a close game. Win or lose it goes down to the last over or final ball.

“It’s going to be an exciting game to finish the season with. They’re a good bunch of blokes and fingers crossed we come out on the winning side.”

Weymouth Seconds are in action at Cattistock & Symene Thirds in County Division Five North & West tomorrow (1.30pm).

Divisional neighbours Portland Red Triangle round off their season at home to relegated Compton House tomorrow (1.30pm).

Portland can still mathematically finish fourth with victory or as low as eighth with a loss against their old rivals.

Triangle captain Matt Randell said: “It is what it is with Compton House, we’ll go hard at each other on the pitch, for sure.

“But we’ll have a beer after. That’s always been the case. It’s a good way to play cricket and it certainly gets us up for it.

“The way some of their supporters conducted themselves down at Compton House it got us fired up.

“It’s about making sure we keep that concentration on the pitch and not get too heated in the moment.

“It’s been such a mixed season for us and it would be nice to sign it off with a victory.”

Portland’s Callan Laws, Dave Adkins, Ryan Price, Chris Theakstone and Matt Barrett all return.

Portland’s seconds visit Wimborne Thirds on the final day of their County Division Four campaign tomorrow (1.30pm).
