LOAN deals for Chelsea players in the “near future” are not on the cards, Weymouth boss Brian Stock has revealed.

Two weeks ago, Weymouth were invited to the European champions’ state-of-the-art Cobham training facility for a pre-season friendly, the Blues winning 13-0.

The fixture was effectively an audition for more first-team football for several of Chelsea’s international stars, including Brazil’s Thiago Silva plus England’s Ben Chilwell and Ross Barkley.

But the Terras also used the contest for networking, with Chelsea loans manager Carlo Cudicini the force behind the occasion.

Asked if Weymouth were close to taking any Chelsea players on loan, Stock admitted some talks had taken place.

He told Echosport: “I’ve had one or two conversations but the issue with them is what players they’re willing to let out.

“They don’t necessarily loan players to the National League. We’ll probably utilise it towards the back end of the season, if not before.

“But in terms of players coming from Chelsea, there’ll be no players in the near future.”

Weymouth currently have a squad of 21 for the current season, including goalkeeper Gerard Benfield who is on loan at Dorchester Town.

Stock revealed Weymouth have been scouting the loan market for possible deals.

“We’re actively looking every single day,” he said.

“The ultimate decision will fall down to what they cost.”

He added: “One of my targets at the end of the season was to recruit players (permanently).

“Across the pitch we’ve got places covered and competition for places is very good. Not only that, it’s the quality we can call upon.”
